Richard Steele was sworn in as the Gwinnett County Tax Commissioner on May 1, 2011, and was elected to his first full term in 2012. Previously, Richard had served the Tax Commissioner's office in the positions of Chief Deputy Tax Commissioner, Property Tax Director and Tag Office Manager.
Before joining the office in 2005, Richard worked as Operations Manager for the UGA Campus Transit System and as a Budget Analyst for the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta.
Richard earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia, and is a graduate of Leadership Gwinnett. He is the immediate past-president of the Tax Commissioners' Technology Development Council of Georgia (TCTech), and is the District Leader for District 19 of the Georgia Association of Tax Officials (GATO). He is a member of the Rotary Club of Lawrenceville in which he serves as President-Elect. Richard also serves on the Executive Board of the Northeast Georgia Council for the Boy Scouts of America, and is the Council Chairman for the 2017 Friends of Scouting Campaign.
